The International Conference on Mutual Recognition Arrangement on Tourism Professional (MRA-TP) was held on 8 and 9 August 2016 in Jakarta, Indonesia. It was co-organized by the Ministry of Tourism of the Republic of Indonesia and the ASEAN Secretariat. The Conference brought together almost five hundred participants comprising the high-level government officials from ASEAN and beyond, international tourism organisations, hotel and tourism associations, industries, educational/training institutions and the media with an aim to increase awareness to the various stakeholders of the MRA-TP. AADCP II supported the participation of international speakers in this important event.
The Conference addressed a wide range of areas of mutual interest and challenges faced by ASEAN Member States, particularly on (a) expansion of MRA-TP to cover other areas, such as job-titles of Meeting, Incentive, Conference and Exhibition (MICE); (b) usage of English as basic communication requirement for implementation of MRA-TP including possible establishment of mechanism to assist potential trainees to fulfill this requirement; (c) facilitation of and support for potential participation of training and education institutions in ASEAN Member States; (d) strengthening of collaborations amongst industry, training and education institutions, and governments through respective National Tourism Professional Board (NTPB) to facilitate the exchange of best practices with the view to harmonizing and updating regional and/or international tourism competencies and curricula; and (f) improvement of facilitation on registration for ASEAN Tourism Professional and related stakeholders through ASEAN Tourism Professional Registration System.
